What are contraindications and why are they important?
Contraindications are certain medical conditions and situations that mean a massage is not permitted.
The following are total contraindications. If you are suffering from any of these you cannot receive a massage at this time:

If you are currently suffering from Covid-19, or are in the immediate recovery phase

Contagious immune condition; e.g. chickenpox, measles, TB, hepatitis B, meningitis

Contagious skin disease; e.g. scabies, impetigo, ringworm, pediculosis, scalp infection

Acute neuritis

Acute illness such as fever, flu, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting or an active migraine
If you suffer from any of the following medical contraindications, you may receive a massage if you have a doctors note to state that it is safe for you to do so:

If you have recovered/are recovering from Covid-19

Recent major surgery (within the last six months)

Asthma, diabetes, epilepsy

Cardiovascular conditions such as a recent heart attack, thrombosis, hyper or hypo tension, phlebitis

Recent stroke, haemorrhage or blood clots
-
Cancer (active or in remission)
-
HIV positive
-
Osteoporosis or spondylitis
-
Nervous system disorders such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, motor neuron disease

Bells palsy
-
Trapped, pinched or inflamed nerve
-
Mental illness
-
Haemophilia or medical oedema
-
Slipped or herniated disc
-
Whiplash
-
Kidney infection
-
Hormonal implants
-
Recent severe, undiagnosed headaches, lumps or bumps

Any condition being treated by a GP, other specialist, or other complementary practitioner

Taking any prescribed medication

Severe allergies
If you are pregnant or suspect you might be, unfortunately I am not currently qualified to give you a massage.
If you have one of the following local contraindication you may receive a massage but the treatment will be tailored to avoid the area of concern:

Non-contagious skin disorder such as eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis

Open wounds, bruises, abrasions, sunburn

Recent sprains, muscle strains, fractures, scar tissue

Enlarged veins or varicose ulcers

Inflamed or painful arthritic joints
-
Areas of specific foci such as herpes simplex, boils, athlete's foot.
